Job Description
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military grade in the Alabama Air National Guard. MINIMUM MILITARY RANK: SSGT MAXIMUM MILITARY RANK: TSGT EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Each applicant must fully substantiate (in his/her own words) that he/she meets the requirements of the Specialized Experience listed below: Otherwise, the applicant will be considered unqualified for this position. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the candidate's ability to maintain and repair automotive vehicles. Must have knowledge of where and how components, accessories, and parts of systems, such as wheel cylinders, fuel lines, condensers, etc. are installed. Must have the ability to use test equipment, reference material and manuals, and maintain tools and equipment SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training performing a variety of complex automotive maintenance procedures without assistance. Experience which demonstrates knowledge and use of a wide variety of test and measuring instruments in identifying the need for repair and adjustment or in checking the tolerance and fit specifications of repaired components and assemblies. SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE: -- Knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of major components and assemblies such as engines, power transmissions, suspensions, steering systems, braking systems, and related electrical, fuel, hydraulic, and wheel assemblies in vehicles powered by internal combustion engines (gasoline or multi-fuel). -- Knowledge of the M-series of tactical vehicles, to include blue fleet, GSA vehicles, dolly sets, and trailers --Skill in troubleshooting hard-to-find vehicle defects or problems and determining repairs needed. -- Knowledge sufficient to troubleshoot, repair, install or rebuild complex major systems and assemblies. Skill in use of related special power tools, hand tools and a wide variety of test equipment (e.g. test stands, oscilloscopes, compression gauges, engine and chassis dynamometers etc., common to the trade). -- Skill, knowledge, and ability to troubleshoot problems with major components and assemblies and determine how far major components should be torn down, what parts and mechanisms can be reworked and refitted or should be replaced with new parts, the type and extent of adjustments and alignments required, and the skill and knowledge to overhaul, repair, align, adjust, and perform operational checks on such components and assemblies. -- Ability to interpret and apply manufacturers' repair manuals, technical specifications, schematics, engineering drawings, diagnostic codes, computer printouts, and other instructions, work orders, and established standards.
