Job Summary
This position is located at the Minneapolis Health Care System MVAHCS Office of Medical Media/Public Affairs. The position has responsibility for the overall integration of all visual, multimedia, and social media designs and corresponding messages. Provides support to healthcare management officials and communications specialists by analyzing, evaluating, advising, designing, implementing, and/or coordinating a wide range of information through multimedia design and messaging.
Job Description
IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-9 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-9: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Visual Information Specialist and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes experience planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.) ~OR~ SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE GS-9: You must have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.B. or J.D. (related to the position) from an accredited college or university. Such education must include major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) ~OR~ COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION GS-9: You must have equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience, as described above, which may be used to meet total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the Visual Information Specialist position and must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE AND COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-11 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-11: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-9) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Visual Information Specialist and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes experience planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. Additional Specialized Experience required for the GS-11 level includes editing, publishing, and monitoring submissions; experience selecting the appropriate format or medium for execution, suggesting illustrations for incorporation, designing layout, and converting the result to a finished product suitable for reproduction, web content, social media & electronic or print distribution. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.) ~OR~ SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE GS-11: You must have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university. Such education must include major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) ~OR~ COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION GS-11: You must have equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which may be used to meet total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the Visual Information Specialist position and must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE AND COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Communication Communications and Media Creative Thinking Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Employee will complete most work assignments while sitting or standing. Work may involve moving sensitive audiovisual, photographic and or computer equipment from one place to another. Employee must have the ability to handle stressful situations. Video distribution scheduling requires the ability to manage, organize and prepare video running times. On occasion, the employee will be required to stand still in tight quarters while operating video or photographic equipment for extended periods of time. Employee must be able to shoulder a video camera and equipment weighing approximately 30 lbs. or less. Occasionally the employee will be called upon to document situations where a tripod is not available or suited for the specific application. The work requires manual dexterity, hand and eye coordination, and the ability to accurately perceive and sense color hues and chroma. Some of the work requires periods of extended bending, stooping, kneeling to obtain properly composed photographs. The employee, alone and assisted, will be required to lift, and transport delicate graphic, photographic and audiovisual equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
