Job Summary
The South Texas VA Health Care System, San Antonio, Texas is currently seeking a full-time Physician (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Chief). The PM&R Service Chief will provide comprehensive patient care of consultative inpatient and outpatient patient care and management that supports the mission through administrative leadership and oversight of their Section's educational and research activities.
Job Description
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Licensure and Registration: Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Physical Requirements: See outlined below. English Language Proficiency. Podiatrists appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Preferred Experience: Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Experience leading a clinical service, including overseeing daily operations, resource allocation, growth, and quality improvement initiatives. Experience developing and manage the service's budget, ensuring efficient utilization of resources and adherence to financial goals. Experience implementing VHA Handbooks, rules, directives, policies and regulations governing a widespread range of administrative aspects. Experience performing a wide range of medical duties covering rehabilitation medicine; examining and assessing patients, developing and managing a comprehensive and rehabilitation program. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-4 Podiatrist Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
