Job Summary
The Lead MSA works in the VA Community Care department and is responsible for the coordination of Advanced MSA workflow found in an interdisciplinary unit. The Lead MSA is primarily responsible for administratively supporting the Supervisory MSA, providing training for departmental staff, providing support across interdisciplinary settings, , conducting departmental audits, and supporting processes for timely coordination of VA-authorized community-based care.

Experience: Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative] work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position OR Education. One year above high school (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) OR Experience/Education Combination: Equivalent combination of experience and education (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. English Language Proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.j. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: GS 07 In addition to the basic requirements for employment listed above, candidates must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)a. Experience. One year of experience/knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA) equivalent to the GS-6 grade level. GS 6 KSAs: Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff. Ability to provide staff development and training. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics. Preferred Experience: 2 years experience within VA Community Care. Physical Requirements: The Lead MSA position is primarily sedentary and requires prolonged sitting and typing. The position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued sitting and lifting of at least 35 pounds on an occasional basis. Staff may rarely be exposed to Veterans who are combative, secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders while in patient care areas.
