This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a team leader and principal project design technical expert on all mechanical engineering matters pertaining to the design of civil works flood control and flood risk management projects.

Basic Education Requirement: Lead Mechanical Engineer - GS-0830 Series AND Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Experience leading a multi-discipline engineering team engaged in executing mechanical engineering designs for civil works projects AND 2) Experience providing engineering guidance on pump stations, locks, hydraulic drainage structures, flood gates, operating machinery, and generators, AND 3) Experience developing design documentation (plans, specifications, and design documentation reports) and reviewing design documentation prepared by others, AND 4) Experience communicating engineering rationale to higher authorities and non-federal entities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. AND SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position requires the applicant to possess and maintain a current, active, valid, and unrestricted Professional Engineer license in the US, the District of Columbia, or a territory of the United States.
