Job Description
To qualify for a Transportation Assistant, your qualifications must include: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-07 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Determines the most efficient economical rates and routes to final destination involving domestic inbound and export shipments Classifies, rates, routes, and moves a wide range of commodities including hazardous material. B. Education Substitution: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. May require lifting of up to 40 lbs. Work Environment: Work is performed in both an office and warehouse environment. The employee may be subject to temperature variances, dirt, dust, and noise. The work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions such as working around moving parts, machines, in a warehouse environment; adverse weather conditions; or carts and/or exposure to irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, safety shoes, goggles, hearing protection and/or gloves.
