Job Summary
This Physician, Open Continuous Announcement, allows acceptance of applications for Family Practice Physicians throughout the year; eligible applicants are referred for consideration when vacancies occur. The incumbent will be a member of a health care team at one of the hospitals or health care centers located within the Oklahoma City Area IHS. This position has no promotion potential and will be filled at either the GS-13 or GS-14 grade level with no promotion potential for either grade.
Job Description
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. The Hiring Manager/Selecting Official may elect to utilize an available flexibility wherein applicants who are actively completing a required professional training program and are expected to complete such program within 9 months of applying, may be deemed tentatively qualified. Individual Occupational Requirements These standards describe the basic qualification requirements (for example, educational, medical, age, experience, etc.) for this type of occupation. Such requirements are listed below. In addition, the minimum qualifications related to this position and essential certifications requirements related to the work of this position are also described below. Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association(external link); Association of American Medical Colleges(external link); Liaison Committee on Medical Education(external link); Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from foreign medical school: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates(external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. AND Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND Graduate training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below. An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association(external link), (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)(external link). A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. In addition, to the Individual Occupational Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, 0602 series: Selective Placement Factor Applicants applying in a specialty must meet one of the following as an approved agency-wide selective placement factor. This is part of the minimum requirements to qualify for the position. Board Certified in the Specialty for which the applicant is applying. OR Possess a residency diploma/certificate from an accredited residency program indicating successful completion within the past three years. OR Currently three or more years from the completion of an accredited residency; or actively pursuing Board Certification of the Board in the Specialty of the position. (you must provide documentation to support this statement) NOTE: Candidates can apply within nine (9) months of meeting the residency program requirements. However, evidence of meeting the basic requirements and minimum qualifications must be provided and verified prior to entrance on duty. *Applicants whom have lost active registration status will not be considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-13: Applicants must have at least three (3) years of equivalent experience in the specialty of the position to be filled; OR Completion of three (3) years of graduate training (internship, residency or fellowship program) in the specialty of the position to be filled; OR A combination of experience and equivalent graduate training (internship, residency, or fellowship program) in the specialty of the position to be filled that when combined total at least three (3) years. GS-14: Applicants must have at least four (4) years of equivalent experience in the specialty of the position to be filled; OR Completion of four (4) years of graduate training (internship, residency or fellowship program) in the specialty of the position to be filled. OR A combination of experience and equivalent graduate training (internship, residency, or fellowship program) in the specialty of the position to be filled that when combined total at least four (4) years.
