Job Summary
The Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition (ASD(A)) is responsible for advising the Secretary of Defense and the USD(A&S) on matters relating to acquisition and the integration and protection of technology that enable capability for the warfighter. The ASD(A) is responsible for Department policies and procedures governing the Department's procurement and acquisition process.

A. I possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution authorized to grant baccalaureate degrees and; at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following fields; accounting, business, finance, law, contracts, purchasing, economics, industrial management, marketing, quantitative methods, or origination and management. (This requirement can be obtained within the bachelor's degree or in addition to the degree). B. I am a current civilian employee in DoD, who occupied a GS-1102 position or contracting position with authority to award or administer contracts above the simplified acquisition threshold in an Executive Department on or before September 30, 2000. SF-50s must be provided to show applicant is a current 1102 and has been in this series since October 1, 2000 if using this exception. C. I am a current civilian employee in DoD, who served as a military member in a similar occupational specialty to the GS-1102 on or before September 30, 2000. In addition to the Basic Requirement, you must meet the following: You may qualify at the NH-04 (GS-14/15) level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH-03 (GS-13) grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: Negotiating contracts utilizing Federal Acquisition Regulation and/or Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement, and/or DoD contracting policies and associated procedures. Developing and operationalizing (e.g., promulgate and provide written/webinar/in-person training) department-level policies, procedures, guidance, and tools. Designing functional requirements for enterprise procurement-related systems and capabilities, such as the Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment (PIEE) or the Card-issuing bank's Electronic Access System. Developing contract requirements (e.g., DoD GPC card-issuing bank services), facilitating necessary source selection decisions, and performing Contracting Officer Representative responsibilities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
