Job Summary

This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Superintendent, Western Nevada Agency in Carson City, Nevada. This position will assist in managing the day-to-day administrative support functions associated with the operation of the Superintendent's office. NOTE:TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE.

Job Description

This position is OPEN UNTIL FILLED and may be extended or closed prior to the current closing date. Applications will be reviewed every two weeks; the first cut-off date for applications is 10 business days from the opening date and every two weeks thereafter. Applicants with 10-point Veterans' Preference who submit a complete application after each two week cut-off date, but before the List of Eligibles is issued, will be considered and referred on the List, if qualified. Applications will remain active for 3 months. Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for the position at the GS-5 level - One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level obtained in either the public or private sector performing clerical work such as preparing, receiving, reviewing and verifying documents; maintaining office records; and locating and compiling data or information from files and other data sources. Four years of education above the high school level. A combination of education and specialized experience listed above totaling 100%. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable as a substitute for specialized experience. Applicants who meet the following requirement may qualify for the position at the GS-6 level - One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level obtained in either the public or private sector creating a variety of correspondence in proper formats using word processing programs; routing official correspondence; managing calendars and meeting schedules for management; providing administrative support such as answering telephone calls and greeting visitors; serving as a point-of-contact for an office; & performing data entry into an automated timekeeping system. Applicants who meet the following requirement may qualify for the position at the GS-7 level - One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level obtained in either the public or private sector performing specialized office tasks including making travel arrangements for executive staff; compiling information from a variety of sources to prepare reports for executive staff; preparing supply requisitions according to established rules; & providing direct support and technical assistance to branch managers, supervisors, and staff in departments such as finance, human resources, procurement, property and supply, and Indian self-determination. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur in the same location within 90 days from the closing date.
